The Evangelical movement of that decade has been spurned even by a lot of Evangelicals of today. Most of the leaders of that movement were faggots, frauds, and fuckwits who were commercializing faith and pushing total garbage.
They destroyed themselves more than anything, and they earned it.
It's one of the reasons a lot of the political leaders either opposed Trump, or were very hesitant to support him.
I have absolutely zero love for Evangelicals but let's not also claim that the Jon Stewart era 2000s was at all neutral towards Christian Conservatives of any stripe.
