A long Steam Discussion thread attacking pronouns devolved into transphobic rants and was linked from 4chan as a justification for pirating our game.
We're lucky our game found some success, but any small game risks being buried by an angry mob before it gets any momentum of its own. The current climate forces indie devs to choose between inclusivity and financial success.
Yeah, fuck you, you know exactly what you're doing so don't even bother trying to gaslight your way out of the situation. It's not 'inclusivity' you were hoping to slip DEI targets under the radar to get that sweet government payout as indie devs and now you're mad your plan has been ruined by curators who are warning normies about your bullshit.
This is one of the few times I completely get why the steam users would sperg out at some random indie dev.
I'm not so sure about any government payout to indies. The developers are just woke. I can almost see the office buttsex from watching the trailer. It's a game made by artists. I could make 2D character movement and projectiles in a weekend in Godot, and half the work is done and I just need some art. Much of the other things like parallax scrolling is built in.
I'm not even saying that is a bad thing for it to be a simple game. I like the idea. But it is missing the charm of what it aims to copy, particularly in the character design. They all look kinda just, gay. I've seen more than my share of pixel characters of old (and typically Japanese) and they don't.
There's a lot of factors at play, things like positive reception from games journalists and so on, so obviously I can't directly accuse them of that but there will definitely be immediate benefits to going woke even if it's not monetary assistance. The AAA studios definitely take some form of payouts and we've seen from internals how they have specific targets even when it comes to hiring practices. My main point is I feel like we've only scratched the surface when it comes to the woke consulting that plagues the industry especially when it comes to their financials.
We could well be seeing a Gamergate 3.0 in the works when you take into account how many brainless NPCs there are on their side. Probably going to get more information from staff once they inevitably get laid off due to shitty sales. For example the creative assembly 'AI programmer' was pretty eye opening in terms of your average big studios' inner workings and that was just one butthurt employee who was annoyed he got targeted over how shit the Total War games have become.
My guess with AAAs is stock price manipulation and/or outside investment from the Blackrocks of the world. It's far too obvious to just send them a bribe, but to quietly imply that they will hire Sweet Babies or some other such firm or the cash inflow from Blackrock to their stock price will stop, that's all it takes.
