Hypnotic makes a very good point and it's one thing that's mind boggling to me that they don't do due diligence. As much as everyone hates on Ubisoft and they deserve it, I'm still of the opinion they really were that retarded they simply went with the Yasuke nonsense just because. CD Projekt Red also had an absolute disaster of a launch with Cyberpunk 2077 in large part because they handed over their QA testing ( Again why? ) to an extremely shady company that was regularly switching out employees and was a total mess internally.
Total mindfuck for me, every games company from now on has to have mandatory play sessions of their games because it's clear they're somehow simply writing code or handing shit over to other people without taking five seconds to review it. Or we are being gaslighted to the extreme and they're trying extremely hard to fake it but I am convinced devs who do this really are that retarded and it's ridiculous.
I bet at these companies the janitor is going to know what's going on more with the product than the developers do.
This case is more understandable. They essentially contracted for a list of "bad words" in a language they didn't speak for the chat filter. I'm sure the game played fine.
If I were a dev and made this same mistake, I could play test the absolute shit out of it without realizing that someone added something controversial in the German word filters. Is a "Merkel" a political leader or a depraved sex act? I certainly don't know; could be either. The only way this particular one gets caught is if you proofread the entire filter list with the awareness of every language it covers.
My problem is that this third-party clearly sucks at their job and should be avoided, but protecting their identity lets them fuck up other studios' projects. There is a severe lack of accountability in business-to-business relationships because no one wants to say, "these guys are 0/5 star, don't ever hire," because they think it makes them look hard to work with.
Yeah, I may even play this game generally as long as I don't see any more controversy, never know, I do like mech games when they're done right as long as it doesn't turn into some shitty pay to win and the fact that the female characters aren't beaten with the ugly stick is a positive sign. It would be extremely refreshing but we'll see.
My issue is often this is just one skeleton in the closet that's surfaced and they always, always seem to be desperately hiding more. I hope I'm completely wrong because I do want to see at least some proper dev studios succeed especially if it's the type of game that I'd like because modern gaming doesn't have to suck. I'm just not going to get my hopes up with this guys because there was another game that was essentially a Chinese Tarkov clone they were trying to hype up and it went full pay to win.
I think overall though I've simply sworn off multiplayer games, completely pointless these days. If the hackers don't get you the cheat whiners who are paranoid about hackers will false report you. Too many people even by my standards are either absolute bots when they play or are treating it like a pro match in order to maintain their k/d ratios but they're not anywhere near skilled enough for it. Then when it comes to the gameplay we're clearly just being farmed for hype while the devs make money off mentally ill whales that spend all their money on these games and then move onto the next fad.
Really it's every other review of this game that makes me doubtful. Mainly that the mech stuff and customization is surface level. Sounds like it's just an objective shooter with a robust monetization system.
