Given how prolific a writer Nobunaga was, Yasuke clearly wasn't real. The myth claims Nobunaga was so surprised by his appearance that he ordered him to try and scrub off the color, but nothing like that is in his writings. Literally the only source is the journal of one Jesuit.

And given they were Catholic and the Japanese had a very.....messy history with them, it's even less believable.
It would be more creditable if it was an account from a Dutch Protestant as they were lifelong friends for centuries.
