After that, Joe Biden gave up. He waited over a month to quit, but before the DNC. They are praising while destroying Biden at the same time. It looks like they expected Harris to take on the Also Ran, and then Biden ‘dies’ near the election. This creates the momentum they need to win. You remember that comment that Biden made a little bit ago, where he almost said "Make America Great Again", but stopped half-way through.
I think that was actually in the script, because I think the script was written with Trump being dead.
I think that they expected Trump to die, and were going to have Biden play off as a "unifyer", and invoke that line as a unifying comment, while he was forced to step out of the race.
