I'm a Baltimore Orioles fan. During the National Anthem our fan base will stress and yell out the O in O say, does that star spangled banner yet wave.
You guys think this is okay or disrespectful? My brother is an Air Force vet and doesn't like it. I don't have a problem with it. I've heard that Braves fan highlight the word Brave.
In literal terms it's a bastardization of the national anthem yes. But it's one various sportsball groups have been committing for decades and won't bother getting right for whatever reason. I remember hearing my uncles complaining about people hamming it up singing the national anthem in the 80s. I remember seeing various singers or celebrities trying to bebop it in the 90s. I gave up on sports around then for various reasons but I highly doubt it stopped.
There hasn't been an America for a long time. Respect, common decency, patriotism are all cracked shells of the past. Why would those people show respect to the flag when they care more about the point spread any given week?
Did you ever have to take the flag down when you were in the military? I got to do it once definitely an honor. When I was young I never would’ve believed sports would turn so political. The Stars shout “stars” when they do the anthem
Yes I had flag detail more than a few times. It was either a solemn and serious event, or treated like a chore. Which depended entirely on which soldiers were present.
I did it during basic and thanked the sergeant, he seemed surprised I thanked him for the opportunity
Yea it’s a really great experience. Made me think about what the ideals of the country are and what it stands for.
