Parasocial relationships are incredibly unhealthy.
TotalBiscuit even tried many times to dissuade them when people he did not know got too interpersonal in the chat. After awhile hearing how chummy people were getting now and then, he'd just get a serious tone and say "You mean nothing to me. You're a name on my screen. I don't know you."
And of course people started hating him for it. But if they had thought about it, what was really going on was him trying to point out that they only know a fraction about him, what he puts online, and he bluntly doesn't even know who they are.
100% people may hate TheQuartering but he made that exact point on TheIncredibleSaltMine podcast and I got it but there were some people in chat hating on him. He was however correct where event though he chatted with Dankula and Bearing they were more like acquaintances than real friends. I write this being someone who's a self-confessed terminally online anti-social fuck but it probably is a form of psychological cope to compensate for the fact that they don't have any RL friends.
The answer isn't necessarily to just 'go outside' but to take steps towards social mobility and go find some real friends you can actually chat the shit with without being reported to the police for hate speech etc.
