I think the hyperbole is mostly performative, but at least some part of it is confessional. When he says “you’re going to hurt me”, he is actually acknowledging that people have red lines and that he intends to violate those boundaries. It’s a passive and indirect admission that puts the blame on you for defending yourself. Like the groomers who decry anti-pedophile laws as inherently anti-gay. Or the commies who brand any opposition to their agenda as fascism. If you really pay attention to these people, they are both admitting their evil and giving you the roadmap to defeat them.
