Glen Greenwald doesn't gatekeep the right. He's a Socialist.
Check his opinions on Venezuela and Brazil if you're not sure. He's got a lot of Leftist friends down there supporting and funding him. He's probably a designated, anti-CIA, Leftist. His interests in South America just don't really require any sort of loyalty to most American leftists.
Yes, people often forget that in current year Anglosphere politics the left doesn't actually care about economics. They parrot a bunch of commie gobbledygook to sound smart but their "socialism" is a Che t-shirt sold at Walmart. Look at Cenk's Nephew for instance, he's the son of a wealthy and influential Turkish banker and EU lobbyist who's promoted by Amazon and Google as today's court rebel and talks about making the blood of landlords flow through the streets even as his own mom is a huge corporate slumlord.
Anglosphere leftists in the current year are a pure LARP when it comes to economics, the only thing they really care about is the culture war and making sure that Democrats/Labour get elected. The capitalists don't fear them because they are the capitalists, the only capitalists they wanna destroy are small business owners because small business owners tend to be conservative, while they love big business. Of course even the commies from back in the day favored big business over small business because small businesses symbolized individuals and communities gaining independence from centralized economic planning, whereas big businesses are way easier to regulate and consolidate into becoming de facto organs of the state.
So it is with the economic systems in the Anglosphere that the incestuous relationship between big business and big government ensures increasing centralization of the economy, and socialism functions as a church for atheists always promising that The Revolution™ is just around the corner. But it never comes, all the special interest groups that purportedly exist to solve various problems end up having to create problems to justify their continued existence, etc.
Anyways, my point is that third world leftists are still the old-school variety that really want an overt socialist state and don't care that much about the culture war, whereas first world leftists already have de facto control over the means of production through crony capitalism. So where third world leftists regard giant multinational corporations as their enemies, first world leftists only LARP as the enemies of these same corporate Leviathans while they're the ones running these places.
