It's even sadder than that, nothing at all was changed. Even that game that came out a few years ago was by all accounts a faithful recreation of the tone and setting. Not like how the things we like keep getting taken over by subversive elements who make drastic changes for the spite of it. Only thing that's changed with Harry Potter was the opinions of it's creator made it no longer fashionable to be a fan of it if you wish to maintain a positive reputation with the lefty activist clique.
They really did get mind broken that their childhood book got ruined.

To be fair I wouldn't wish something like 'the cursed child' on any fandom and that was endorsed by the author herself as canon.
