yakuza worked for decades to keep cards out of japanese life. card transactions are traceable and controllable. cash isn't. for being such an advanced country in so many ways, almost everything was cash-only or anonymous RF card up until the pandemic (suica or pasmo, it's like a prepaid debit). then many places in japan started taking visa/MC during the coof.
the dumb thing here is that this sounds like it's being framed as the sites dropping visa/MC, when digging deeper it sounds like they got dropped for erotic content. but it's not just any erotic content... i doubt those stopped working on OF and all the other porn sites.
it's because so many of these japanese sites have anime child porn. and as much as some specific people in KiA want to act like that is legal, there are plenty of jurisdictions where it's illegal.
it’s a shame Japan doesn’t have its own competition to the visa/mastercard duopoly

Japan shouldn't have to enforce international laws any more than we should bow to the UN or EU.
sure, but visa is still an american company that must abide by american laws
America has the 1A and SCOTUS has ruled that loli/shota hentai is constitutionally-protected speech you inbred low-IQ mouthbreather.
