Half the value of a Brand New Full Price Remake is allowing it to be played finally after its been out of print for decades. And wild localizations fall apart once people have access to the original to compare.
That doesn't work if the original is easily accessed and people constantly let that fact be known as actually preventing sales of the Full Price Remake from happening. Vimm's is probably just the most obvious target because its extremely easy to find, simply to navigate and popular.
But its a consistent theme with Nintendo, emulation is begrudgingly left alone until people make it obvious that its costing them money directly. Then they shut down something big to prove a point. Just like they did with Switch emulators after TotK leaked early.
Vimm's been around for 3 decades; I literally visited it within the last 2+ years to browse PS libraries after not touching the website for ~15-20 years, and was impressed that Nintendo ROMs were still up.
