People have just stopped trusting accepted critics and figures, and when they finally get to see it they feel right in their assertions.
The Acolyte is a great example of that on Disney+.
They can throw racist, sexist and homophobic at audiences for not seeing it but since the entirety of the customer base with the money required have now been called Nazis at one time or another in the past decade they just don't care.
Those promoting both Furiosa and The Acolyte were all shouting #MeToo just years ago but now don't want to mention Weinstein or Epstein and their involvement in the entirety of the business even though that is much more relevant than whether men or women should enjoy Barbie or Sound of Freedom.
Deadpool and Wolverine will give everyone a good movie experience this Summer but the rest of the slate for the next couple of years is dry and nobody cares if a critic or social commentator goes hungry.
Like video games, people just want to unwind with escapist entertainment and enjoy their bread and circuses in peace. If the Hollywood bigwigs didn't see this coming then it is just natures way of saying "Bah-bye!".
The theatres can stay alive based on old movies alone, this year has proven that,(25 yr old movies are packing seats while new releases, crickets) maybe theatres can finally put something in their pocket besides popcorn money.
Yeah they just have to rerelease actually good movies people want to see. If somebody knows one of their favorite movies is being shown they would probably want to see it more than [Hollywood woke remake #23].
Honestly the family and I watched Shrek 2, all three spider-man 2000’s movies, and the phantom menace and we had more of a blast than any recent movies I can think of. Even the kids don’t get excited over newer marvel movies because they can tell it all sucks too
