There is no one in Hollywood creative enough to tackle that magnum opus by Gilliam. Even for its time the effects were quite amazing (though, to be fair I haven't seen it in decades and maybe they don't hold up, but when it came out it was quite the spectacle). They would end up "diversifying" it as much as they could, but it's far too layered and witty; and dumbing it down wouldn't be worth it, which is probably why it has never been on the docket for a remake.
I watched it again a couple of years ago and it was refreshing to see a film without CGI and with it's own style. Originality is taboo in hollyweird these days
