Companies don't make history if they aren't good at providing something that people want. Nothing is perfect, but at least in the past they hired people who could do the job well.
they certainly did. I worked with some older guys that worked at IBM back in the good old days and they left a very lasting impression on me as well as a respect for what IBM used to be about... still got a THINK placard on my desk from one of them.
