As an OG TES and Fallout player who prefers Daggerfall and FO1+2, I can admit Skyrim was a good, if simplified, game and Fallout 3 was a fun adaption into 3D for the series. Fallout 4 is derivative. Taken alone it's fine but anyone could have created that with the wealth of assets and IP they were building on, so it's not a sign of competence. So sometime between Morrowind and FO4 is when they lost their mojo.
Listening to one of the original fallout devs talking about how companies handle code in video games is remarkable by the way and it certainly explains a lot about their development times and how they somehow end up putting out less content than they did in the old days. I need to find the full video and watch all the way through it.
when did they, morrowind?
