Looking at the website, it seems like the only games VVS has worked on are games from Niantic. I find it strange that Niantic would rely on this subcontractor as opposed to doing it all in house. Maybe accounting fuckery? I've heard of companies preferring temps to be contractors instead of employees.
Their first couple of things didn't require avatars or particularly complex modelling. Field Trip was just extra info for Google Maps and Ingress's graphics were rather simplistic, particularly before the change to the third generation (?) graphics. I can see them getting outside help for humanoid avatars.
