The last The Sims game I played was the 2nd one back when it came out. I'm wondering if any are worth picking up or is this just my nostalgia making me want to revisit the series? I wanted to play something that is a change of pace from my usual games.

The problem with the Sims 4 is yes it's technically a 'game' but like most modern corpo slop titles it's nothing more than a vehicle for micro-transactions with barely any gameplay about. You may think that's weird but honestly compared to the older Sims games the gameplay loops are remarkably basic and the Sims wasn't even that much of a complex game to begin with.
You pick your career after customising your characters' personality with a couple of sort of interesting traits, then you go to said career, flick through that because nothing really happens occasionally get some pop up choices to get a promotion and whatnot. What's funny about all of this is EA dropped all pretence after awhile with the game and simply made the base game free.
When you do ahem, sale the high seas, you realise that in some cases the DLCs despite costing an arm and a leg barely add anything to begin with and in a lot of cases often end up being very annoying. Some examples of this would be their stupid hippy DLC ( It involved green living stuff ) where you get constantly pestered by the council to make your house environmentally friendly. Then there's other stuff that adds crap like dust bunnies and of course it's some silly micro-management garbage to give you busy work to do rather than any real gameplay.
This is a daily reminder from me that normies ruin everything and they ruined the Sims with shit like this and yes it's their fault. The Sims used to be a fairly expansive game but now like any franchise that used to be known for being quite in depth it's being dumbed down like crazy. I suspect when they're done milking the Sims 4 they'll announce the Sims 5 and it will be some shitty game they've put up for mobile. That you can play with one finger.
