I hated that unnecessary girlboss bulshit with Peach in an otherwise pretty great movie.
I have more respect for Mario who had to gut things out instead of someone who is just somehow naturally perfect.
Considering she fails at everything she does in the movie, sans a line about beating an obstacle course in the past, she is pretty bad at being a girl boss and perfect. Couldn't get the Kongs without Mario, couldn't get them to the battle once they joined, had to just give up and have her whole kingdom run after that, needed Mario to win every fight for her.
It was still lame that they swapped Peach and Luigi's roles for the movie. The movie was a lot of fun, overall. But what they did to Peach and Luigi completely disqualify it from being the best Mario movie.
I think Luigi's place is the culmination of his best known role being from the Mansion series. Which means they needed him alone and terrified for a solid portion of it. At least he got his moment to shine at the end. Don't agree with it, but I see why it might have happened.
But its probably the least egregious family movie in a long time in terms of any wokeness, which makes the constant attempts to fluff it up into some huge horribly woke nightmare confusing considering the sheer amount of much more rotten examples released yearly.
In a movie called Super Mario Brothers, I expect to see the brothers together on an adventure, instead of Luigi just getting to be star powered for one scene and the kidnap victim for the rest.of it.
