The whole convention scene is surrounded by the walls of a massive arched hall - or an O'Neill cylinder. This picture is clearly depicting the colony ship the aliens travelled to earth in. The event shown must be one of their many simulations, practicing how they will blend in and interact with the humans once they arrive.

I noticed that. It also seems to have blur streaks that indicate speed, like it's shooting through space or something.
