Ah yes, another moron who takes the word of someone who never read the book, brags about it, and made a movie with the exact opposite message.
The bugs have space flight, have an empire, and the humans fought them on multiple different planets while being allied with another alien species after making peace with them because the bugs are a huge threat.
The federation is actually losing the war for most of the book.

Complain to Paul Verhoven, not anonymous internet people. His version of the series was continued for a lot longer than the book, make of that what you will.
