Despite being raised in the dirty South, none of my upbringing even brought up homos or trannies. We didn't have any so no one even bothered to teach us about them. My entire first experience with them was seeing drag queens on TV and Pride Parades on the news. Both of which gave me an instant revulsion and disgust that has not changed to this day.
Them "normalizing" themselves just created a world where more and more people are aware of their existence, and their "normal" is disgusting enough that most people will hate it without being scared into acceptance.
