Dude is a fat neckbeard that wrote fantasy fanfiction. Hit it big. Now he doesn't want to do any work. I can't say I blame the guy, tbh. He's just displaying his terrible characteristics as a person though. He could just come out and admit the truth that he's too lazy and can't be bothered to finish the story not to mention the fame has made him too self conscious about finishing because he cares what other people think far too much. He lacks the integrity to come out and speak the truth so he'll just blame everyone else for his own faults. Typical lazy neckbeard leftist mentality. He doesn't owe it to anyone to finish the book and he'd be a much better person if he just said as much.
Obviously, he does. The people who bought his previous books, and were interested in his stories, did so under the assumption that he would actually finish what he started. After all, if he said "hey dumbasses, five books is all you're going to get, the last two books will never get finished, OKAAAAY?" when he released the first book, no one would have bought it.
I hate that argument with a passion. Other authors finish their series, there's even authors who make writing their passion and use all the life they have to finish their series. Someone like for example Eichiro Oda comes to mind who makes One Piece. His schedule is outright bonkers yet he still does it. Meanwhile Martin and other authors (someone like Patrick Rothfuss comes to mind) just wank about how great they are and never even finish something.
I think the problem is that we have lost the concept of "duty" as a society. We have forgotten that we have moral and spiritual obligations, even if there is no legal consequence for breaking them.
This concept isn't even unique to Western society; the Hindu concept of dharma is similar.
