Because it is now at the point where localizers have wormed their way into being directly involved with the game design process and telling the game devs to preemptively censor shit, affecting even the original Japanese versions of video games.
Japan is small. Most money they make is overseas. If they can’t get distribution they make no money so even Japan isn’t immune to pandering. They’ve just been more resilient to it. Once Sony moved its headquarters to the US, you got black Spiderman trying to setup a gay marriage proposal or something in Spiderman 2 and trying to carry the torch away from Peter Parker for no good reason.
Nintendo is the main company holding the line. Even then, in things like the Mario movie, you’re seeing it creep in around the edges.
A healthy culture would take pride in their best work being loved overseas.and puzzlement or bemusement if for some reason something weird becomes a trend elsewhereth. Like the mexicans loving dragonball z, or the germans watching that old english comedy skit as a christmas tradition.
I know I am retarded, but why would the Japanese give a shit about Westerners getting shitty localizations of their media?
