I haven't been paying that close of attention to a foreign war. Not like that response has anything to do with poison gas, though.

Typically, the Islamists have shown themselves to be happy to use civilians and hostages as human shields. I wouldn't be surprised if it is Hamas' primary objective to get the IDF to accidentally kill the hostages.
