Nuanced does not equate to better in fiction, nor does "critically thought".

A work of fiction requires the suspension of disbelief because you know it never actually happened. If you're constantly thinking "This isn't real" when viewing media, it becomes tedious.

The point of fiction is to elicit emotions in the reader that makes them want to continue viewing. If the emotions they get are confusion (because things are too complicated and messy, without a satisfying resolution) or shame (because the character you identify with turns out to be the bad guy, or even just pathetic), no one will want to view that media.

One day Disney will figure that out, though these women never will...
