Reading "Forever" as an adult is horrific when you put yourself into the position of Michael, the young male teenager that the female protagonist has sex with and she then cheats on a few weeks later while she's at camp. Michael is actually in love with her. That's what sex does to you as a young man, for all the portrayal of men as treating sex as something casual, it's a sure way of triggering bonding in the male brain. And she dumps him, callously.
