Oh no
Turns out it's the Japanese production
I randomly saw that when I booted up netflix. It didn't look terrible from the teaser, just.. nor my thing. Live adapting animation just sort of takes out the soul animations have... reenact the Berzerk sacrifice scenes you cowards! Then I might be impressed.
I was half expecting Kuwabara to be cast as a Chris Tucker-type raceswap sidekick but I am still disappointed.
It is an entirely Japanese cast so at least it is not Hiei or Kurama or Kuwabara randomly being Black.
This is so unnecessary though.
We don't need a live action version.
All I want is a remake anime like Rurouni Kenshin recently got. It would be nice to see how some of the best fights would look with modern animation.
The original anime was one of my favorite anime of all time.
Same here, the dark tournament modernized would be amazing
I just finished watching all 5 episodes of the live action series.
They had some decent choreography in the fights, also even has some good casting but they sadly rushed the pacing way too much. They try to ram 60+ episodes of plot into 5 episodes.
The first two episodes were actually good and then they decided to screw it up.
I give it a 5/10 overall and a 7/10 for the first 2 episodes.
Spoiler alert:
They sadly shoehorned the main dark tournament fights of Karasu vs Kurama, Hiei vs Bui, Elder Toguro vs Kuwabara and Younger Toguro vs Yusuke into the Yukina rescue arc and made it so they can't do a proper Dark tournament arc. They also teased Chapter Black arc as the season 2 arc.
