I do think that this is why I find a lot of the Sexual Minority representation worse than most of the "Strong Womyn" protagonists (though that still sucks, and I don't think I can speak positively of any female protagonist here without getting downvoted), because it feels like when you write a gay/transgender/tumblr gender nonsense character, that's the only real character trait they have. I think at least in theory it's possible to write a female protagonist without being obnoxious, like some of puppet combo's games.
Then again, I can understand if you think they suck equally.

It also restricts their lore.
As the image above depicts, if Tracer was made right proper she would have a kid, and you could do all sorts of cool things with that outcome, as Overwatch 3, 4, whatever could be about the next generation of heroes.
If Tracer's kid had acquired her speed/phasing abilities but without requiring the chest piece you could write some really cool storylines surrounding the family dynamic, the good, the bad, the possible corruption of her kid turning evil or lured to the dark side with an innate ability.
A character who grows up with a god-complex because they have that ability without requiring the restrictive tech to stabilise could also be a fun alternative. Having the parents have to deal with the outcome of fighting against their own child while the governing forces attempt to use lethal means to put them down adds even more complexity and a dynamic to the potential character arcs. One of the parents having to sacrifice themselves to save the child adds even more to the story, because a biological parent having to sacrifice themselves adds a lot more weight than if it's just a surrogate or adoptive parent.
But in Clown World, shoving in gay characters to force their appearance and presentation onto kids is more important than long-form storytelling, character dynamics, or world-building.
