Yeah, being able and willing to work is important imo. My grandparents (who were essentially a second pair of parents to me) somehow took care of us and their children while both of them were working, which is insane but I consider it admirable.
They were also both capable of taking care of themselves if necessary. However, I believe that the terms "career" and "independence" are loaded terms for women, its a bad situation. If I had to choose between an '"independent career women" and "supportive homemaker", I'd choose the latter. But if the wife is actually willing to do anything for the family that she can (and isnt morally wrong ofc), I consider that to be the best option.
