I was out in public earlier today in a place with ESPN on in the background, and they read off the story.
What's interesting is they also repeated "the man" over and over in a manner that didn't flow naturally and was very obviously deliberate. Only to come out and say who it was with the photo near the end in a much more natural reporting style.
So the "man" thing isn't just an outlet or so trying to be woke in a cringe manner. That's a very specific word being used by every outlet in a clear way being pushed on them from someone above. Otherwise it would be easy to just say "another player" or even "someone from the arena" to much more naturally obfuscate his identity.
