The first episode of TWD is one of my favorite hours of TV ever. They made some comical gun mistakes, and Kirkman blatantly ripped off 28 Days Later, but it was still well done. I enjoyed it for a while, put up with it through all of the Negan stuff, and noped out when they got rid of the main character to introduce a group of perfectly-groomed, super diverse survivors.
Ah okay. I guess I didn't stick around long enough to find out. It was just immersion breaking I think. One of them was even deaf if I remember correctly.

Yep, my impression as well. Although, the grooming was dealt with in-story, but it was still pretty weak.
