There is a branch of transgender fiction known as "identity death" where the protagonist not only changes to a different body, but their mind and personality is altered and they lose all their memories of their past life, leaving many to ask "what was the point of that?". Well it seems to derive entirely from self loathing. The transgender aspect seems to emerge as just wanting to be as different from themselves as possible. You'll often see racial transitions involved in these stories for what I believe is the same reason.
There's also category of erotic fiction and imagery involving women putting on bodysuits or magically transforming into other women. The "become a different person" aspect seems to be the main appeal.
