Hypocrisy is the lubricant that allows people of vastly different values to still work productively together and live in the same communities. Everyone pretends to be normal in public and what they do behind closed doors is the subject of private gossip, not public pronouncements.

The degree of hypocrisy was also incredibly exaggerated. The percentage of people into weird fetishes has multiplied thousands of percent since the "closeted" 1950s.
