I have no idea why people watch any of these shows. Jerry Springer was fake from day one. It wasn't even the first to shock audiences. It was definitely the raunchiest of them all after awhile, though.

It was another show, Jenny Jones, that actually got someone killed. The guy that did the killing was paroled about 5 or 6 years ago, iirc.
