With the 2nd game releasing on steam early next year, I picked up zero dawn on steam. I will now talk spoilers below.
I am currently on the border of the nora territory with the sun tribe. I enjoyed the first part of the game alot up until the brave trial, but after that aloy has started to feel a bit mary suish. She starts the game as an underdog outcast which I related to, but now she seems too.. Sure of herself, a bit cocky. It's normal for the player char to be super talented, but she just seems to be getting arrogant about it.
World building is great, I just feel the game treats aloy as if she is perfect. She never gets called out by other characters for making a mistake
Maybe I'll just take a break and come back later. I really play games for the story.
I can’t imagine playing video games primarily for their stories.
It's like watching the Super Bowl for the commercials.
To each his own, I guess. I’ve enjoyed a small handful of video game stories, but I’ve become way less tolerant of their excesses as I’ve aged. At this point, I’m playing soulslikes, roguelikes, and survival crafting games almost exclusively. The common thread in these genres? 99% gameplay.
Watch a longplay or look up the ending online in a wiki. That's what I do (at 1.5x speed) whenever I get bored of a game and just want to see the end. No sense wasting my life playing a so-so game when I could be playing something more fun.
