That's largely in part due to what the Batman meme puts forth.
Die a hero or live long enough to become the villain.
The less time you have the fewer opportunities to fuck up and be remembered for said fuck ups.
Give anyone enough time and there will be more and more chances for something to happen which leads them down the path to villainy, a concept that can be quite subjective anyway.
Look at Darwin, by the time he was old he had lost children due to reasons and no longer had the religious faith of his youth. That lack/loss of faith at the time would be/wasenough for some to label Darwin as a "villain" in the form of an apostate. For what? Having his children die through no fault of his own? Life sucks for many and the longer anyone lives the more it can suck as bad things happen to them and theirs including death. It all takes a toll and builds up to a breaking point.
Similarly, dying young can ironically immortalise someone's appearance. Marilyn Monroe will always be thought of as beautiful because she never had the opportunity to age, gracefully or otherwise. All the "Club 27" members of celebs who died at that age are the same, remembered forever looking young because they are never going to look old.
Sid Vicious is a even more classic example. He died so young that he never got the chance to fuck up any part of why people liked him, or even get remotely big enough to begin to "sell out" like all his similar names get accused of.
Even a few more months could have tainted his legacy, so him dying that young is how a garbage musician living a self destructive life could have a "legacy" instead of just being a forgettable former band member of some band.
