Handing a banana to a black person was a racist thing back in the day because it was a gesture that implied they were a monkey.

This is completely different from accepting a fruit basket that includes bananas. if anything, if the bananas were some kind of racist gesture, it would be the gift giver calling the mayor a monkey.

Snyder continued to apologize
