Bold of you to assume the "conservatives" in power actually want to stop the unending tide of "progress". Most conservative leaders are controlled opposition or otherwise a form of containment for right-wing dissent.
Conservatives are just right liberals. They have no loyalty to God, country, throne and family. They are merely a different shade of progressivism.
