They literally do not think themselves smart enough to analyze any kind of data, so they use appeal to authority
So true. I recently had some guy tell me that decisions should be made by "people smarter than us", to which I countered "if they're smarter than us, they should be able to explain it to us so we can decide".
Ironically, he was protesting parental rights in schools. So, if the schools are doing such a great job because they're "smarter" than parents, why aren't we (the graduates of these programs) smart enough to understand anything?
Literally, what is the point of mass education, which these people seem to favour, if only a handful will ever be "experts"?
