Considering how much effort NATO has put in to trying to reform AZOV's image, it makes me think it was a propaganda effort pointed entirely uprange, and just confused the Ukranians.
Also, one of his patches is black & red, with a gold star of david.
Those colors almost universally indicate Communism or Anarcho-Communism. If that flag is to be believed, he might consider himself a Zinonist Anarcho-Communist... which would make me seriously question the idea that he is Orthodox.
That flag is a modification of Right Sector’s flag, which is red and black with the Ukrainian symbol in the center. Apparently RS has a Jewish contingent and their flag replaces the Ukrainian symbol with the Star of David. RS’s flag, along with about all of Ukraine’s fascist symbolism, dates to the early WWII era when the Germans were seen as liberators expelling the commies.
Neat. Why they would choose Red & Black is weird to me.
