All of the major characters in the game are women or PoC or both. I can’t even kill them. The game doesn’t allow me to. I can understand major story characters, but the fact that I can’t kill leaders of factions is fuckin bullshit.
The stream I was watching the guy was playing a pirate and ran across a "school bus" spaceship supposedly full of kids. He tried blowing it up and nothing happened. The actual whole spaceship was fucking invincible. It didn't even react to getting shot.
I can understand major story characters
Honestly I think that's another lazy development trope, a crutch that Bethesda and others just do because they can. Starfield itself has "hidden" story branches that react to certain unconventional actions of the player. It would only be slightly more challenging to add more branches for when major characters are killed off. For example in some games when a quest giver was killed, another random NPC would take his place and give you the same quests.
