I reject the idea that there's been a culture "rout" in gaming. Frankly, it's the only place where we see active, continual, but disorganized resistance within the general population. Mostly because it's funny to piss off the Leftists. Fighting fire with fire may work, but often only polarizes and hardens two sides, meaning that the Left can strengthen their conquests. Mockery has a utility when also working with annoyance and disruption. "Lol, shut up fag" is a great response that delegitimizes the enemy both as a threat and as a power. Reacting with outrage still acknowledges their authority.
Anita is actually a poster child of this. Reactionary attitudes and enflamed outrage at her antics only solidified her position. Apathy is what actually did her in, and ended her fraud. There was nothing for the Left to rally around to defend.

I have to disagree. What were Anita’s main demands? No more eye candy, Mary Sues galore, and bad things not happening to women. (Plus, of course , giving her lots of money). Well, she definitely got her lots of money, and if you look at modern games they’re filled with ugly girl bosses who perform better than the men they’re saddled with in every conceivable metric. Anita got everything she asked for, and the only way she “failed” was a failure to push for more and stay personally relevant. Her ideology didn’t lose any ground, she just stopped being the poster child. Even calling that failure is assuming she doesn’t want to just take the cash and fade into obscurity, and even if it is a personal failure on her part, plenty of others have picked up where she left off.
If I had to pick between a gaming and cultural landscape where things had become “polarized” and “hardened” around Anita’s initial claims and we were still fighting those battles, and a gaming landscape like the one today where the fights are around how blatantly games have started to cross new lines of retardation, I’d take the former in a heartbeat. What you’re saying is a bit like a kingdom celebrating that its troops no longer skirmish on the border, because its neighbor now holds that territory and besieges their capital.
