They lie about being a "YIMBY" anyway. Go try to put a church they find racist, or a straight men bar, something that would piss off your savage natives (I can't remember what they call them in Oz), or a right wing campaign center. I bet they very quickly become NIMBYs for that.
Besides, not gatekeeping your own neighborhood is stupidity.
We've gotten to the point where not gatekeeping other people's neighborhoods is stupidity, and that's the problem.
For whatever reason, people don't want to invest in infrastructure any more. Add in the immigration crisis, and our mode of living is breaking down. Some people want to get rid of cars. I just want to get rid of the excess people.
They will still bitch about infrastructure problems, blame someone else, and when the time comes want to give the money to corrupt progressive causes instead. I've heard that constantly since 2021 when historically cold weather causes some electricity issues here in Texas. On and on and on about "the grid is bad, fuck the Republicans who won't fix it." Except well, it's really not that bad and almost all of the issues are caused by green energy. Population grows, you need more electricity, it's just so much easier to leech federal subsidies to build solar and wind farms with little resistance than the years and years the green groups will lock you in court to build anything else.
The only thing you can be sure of is if greenies are bitching about the grid, they aren't planning on fixing it. Not in the sense of making it work like it was originally designed.
As a society, infrastructure is like putting points on the board. You can track the expanse and retreat of them by infrastructure. No matter who's to blame.
