remember when call of duty was a grueling first person shooter that was innovative in that it was one of the few where you were not some ultra powerful Space Marine, but rather some schmuck who would die almost instantly when riddled with bullets from an mg42? remember the game that displayed old quotes about war from different philosophers and great writers on death to re-emphasize the fact that war is hell?
The title Call of Duty should have been dropped starting with modern warfare 2.
MW2 was when it started going off the rails, but it was only like half off. There was still some good stuff in that game. No Russian has stood the test of time as an a authentic statement, unpleasant as it is. The Chinese dropping into suburban LA was Red Dawn nonsense, but it was a way of confronting the idea of war with near-peer adversaries, which has been all the rage in the defense/geopolitics sphere since Afghanistan ended.
