If you could fire one showrunner of any book/game adaption or remake/"reimagining" that has been done since 2016 who would it be?
Very tough choice for me, but I think I would fire the showrunner for Wheel of Time. I'd love to tell him to his face that I wanted someone to actually adapt the book and to not inject their personal garbage. The guy actually said that he wanted to bring out lgbt stuff that the book only hints at or doesn't go into detail about, but when the book specifically describes how people look, that doesn't seem to matter. Or the whole Dragon Reborn prophecy doesn't seem to matter amongst other things. You could've have had such a popular show with someone who actually cared about adapting the books.
I guess an honorable mention would be to fire in advance the lady who is doing the Chronicles of Narnia butchering.... I mean adaptation for Netflix, but there are so many I could pick.
I’ve read some disc world books and they were enjoyable. How bad did they ruin Foundation? I saw an interview where the showrunner talked about asking permission to race and gender swap so that kinda tells you about priorities. I’ll look up amazing Maurice
Also bear in mind that Apple's Asimov fanfic has ninja robot assassins.
Asimov specifically created the Three Laws because he found the "killer robot" trope so bloody boring.
Also, re the foundation tech in the books, at one point, somebody from the remnants of the Galactic Empire takes a potshot at a Foundation agent ... and is shocked to find that the Foundation has managed to shrink shielding down to a personal level. The Empire has shielding, sure - on warships. That's how far ahead of the Galactic Empire the Foundation gets to.
Yup, and I take your point on the imagery of the two.
In context, the Galactic Empire is a little like the Soviet Union - vast resources meant it was never really concerned with efficiency. Worst case, they can always throw more people at a particular problem to make it go away.
Compare the US of the same period, all high-tech gizmos and widgets of phenomenal cost to drive the highest performance out of every thing they had.
Its a shame. The opportunity was totally there and the creatively bankrupt who aren't familiar with the source material botched things, as is usual in 'current year.'
If would bargain mightily to see what the whole arc of the Mule would look like in your version, the anguish of the psychohistorians as their algorithms fail and Foundation's faith is shaken by a vault that has nothing to do with their crisis....
It would have been a great second or third season.
Foundation is one of those where if you've read the books , the adaptations are a pale imitation. I haven't bothered watching season 2. Some of the sfx were ok but the pacing was too slow and convoluted.
I’ve read the first book, but haven’t gotten around to the rest.
