There's a lawsuit local to me about changing the admissions criteria for a gifted high school. It went from everyone in the county competing against each other, and only kids who had parents that paid for tutors got in, to every middle school had a set number of students allowed meaning the kids re completing against a smaller grouping kids.
And the parents that were paying for the tutors got upset and sued because they're Asian. But, they made that obvious when they sued.
The problem is that private schools can use the old method. Public schools can't be out of reach of poor people. There was an article that said no stuxentabinvolvexnin sports got into the school. Only students that studied as their after school activity.

So far students per middle school has won.
HS near me did this. Was a top 10 HS in the country and they dropped outside the top 1000.
