Every day I spend in internet 2.0, I long for internet 1.0.
Nerds cultivated it, gave it life. The barrier to entry was a PC in the 90s, because that's the only device that could go online until the mid 2000s. Now you can buy a fridge that has a TV on it and wifi that can get you online.
People used to make websites for their pets, because they could and it was fun. You could discuss anything anywhere. And unless it was off topic, it was left up for all to see.
And while all that is technically possible, the internet revolves around 5 or 6 corporate controlled sites that dictate what you can and cannot say. If you want reach, that's where you go now.
However, the second some group find you lacking, they'll get you kicked out. Then you'll join the lesser known areas, and have less reach. Ironically because they too have less reach at those other sites with which to get you kicked off there too.
