They are coasting on their TV deal, and like almost all corp execs, are not thinking past their next bonus check. They don't seem to understand that the TV deal offer won't be anywhere near as big as their current one when it comes up for renewal.
I never liked NASCAR anyway, because who likes ovals? I was always more of a road course sort of person. I loved the old IMSA prototype/GT/GTP series, and Trans-Am.
NASCAR is actually in the middle of negotiating a new deal right now. The old one expires at the end of this year.
The NASCAR Xfinity series (equivalent to the minor leagues) just got announced that it is moving to the CW of all places. It previously aired on FOX and NBC. NASCAR is acting like this is a big win for PR, but I can't imagine anyone actually thinks the CW is a step up from FOX and NBC.

It isn't. They don't know that, of course, because why would they? No one in the corporate office is from the target demo, and is utterly clueless.
The CW is garbage, bottom tier television.
That was my understanding until everyone started acting like it was a good thing. Clown world strikes again I suppose.
I love oval racing. But fuck NASCAR.
