Perhaps the source(s) your girlfriend watches differs from whomever u/tryyttt is getting info from. If she is anything like you, she may delve into alternative media outlets at times, or something like the Japanese equivalent of Fox News, for example. Tryyttt mentioned NHK in one comment (though that could be through a random Japanese tweeter intermediary).
